Updates & Advisory Board

We strongly recommend booking your tickets to Tanzania at least 4-6 months (January - March 2025) in advance to find the best rates. 
 

Travel Dates for Guests: You are welcome to arrive on any date after July 5th, 2025 and we are happy to welcome our guests up until July 21st, 2025 in Dar es Salaam. 
 

Group or Individual activities (Safari and Zanzibar Island Trip) will occur from  July 13th - July 20th, 2025.

Flights

Destination: Julius Nyerere International Aiport

Travelling to East Africa may be a long journey but it doesn't have to be uncomfortable as there are many flight route options and airlines that can carry you safely. The majority of the aircraft that travel cross-continental are airbuses which means they are super big with lots of room and equipped for maximum comfort for the passengers.

  • North America (transits within)  - Europe or the Middle East - Africa
     

The travel duration is roughly 20+ hours

Travel Preparations

VISA & TRAVEL DOCUMENTS:

Please be sure to check that your passport is valid (not expired) at least 6 months after July 2025. 

If you are traveling with a Jamaican passport please note you do not need a visa to enter into Tanzania. 

If you are traveling with a Canadian or United States of America passport then you are required to have a visa to enter Tanzania. 
 

Please note: As long as your country is not listed under requirements for a referral visa (in which the USA and Canada are not listed) then you are eligible to apply for a visa upon entry to Tanzania. The visa fee is $100 USD.

Documents that you may need to securely carry in their original format (not a photocopy): 

  • Valid Permanent Resident (PR) Card/ Document ​

  • Valid Green Card 

  • Valid Passport 

  • Valid VISA (unless you plan on applying and receiving it upon entry)

  • Your flight (which includes return flight) details (printed) 
     

On your phone or on a separate sheet of paper the following information will be asked for when applying for your visa upon entry: 

The address of where you'll be staying ​

The name and contact info of someone whom you will be in contact with throughout your trip while in Tanzania.

Health Documents

Yellow fever card is required if traveling from a country where the disease is endemic.
 
If you have it: please carry proof of your COVID-19 vaccine. 

 

Please also note in regards to the Yellow fever vaccination certificate or prophylaxis ( ICVP)

Guests need to receive the vaccine 10days prior to arrival.

IMMIGRATION
CUSTOMS

Travelers must declare international currency valuing more than $10,000 on both entrance to and exit from Tanzania. Non-resident American citizens may not import or export Tanzanian Shillings (TSH).

TRAVEL
ADVICE

Once outside the airport please note that the currency of use is Tanzanian Shillings (TZS) and so it is advised to change a suitable amount of your currency into TZS as the mode of payment often is cash. ATMs and currency exchange offices are available throughout the city and easily accessible. USD is also accepted by some businesses such as hotels and within the airport. 

E-SIM AND SIM CARDS

Some local telecom operators offer both e-SIM and SIM card services at their shops in the airport (Julius Nyerere International Airport Tanzania)
 

Operators such as YAS, the fastest data network in Tanzania provides both services.
 

To register for an e-SIM or SIM card, you will need your passport and visa.

Cultural Customs & Facts

Tanzania is made up of more than 120 tribes each with its own language and customs, however, the dominant language spoken is Kiswahili/Swahili. 
 

The normal greeting you will receive or give is:

"Habari" - Hello

"Mambo" - Whats Up | "Poa" - Good (the response)

 "Jambo" - Hello
 

If you are greeting an elder or are an elder receiving a greeting from someone younger than you'll hear:

"Shikamoo" - Hello (greeting from younger person to elder)​

"Marahaba" - Hello (response from elder to younger person)
 

Other words/phrases that are useful to know:

"Jina langu ni ____" - My name is ___

"Sijui Kiswahili" - I do not know Swahili language

"Natoka (your country)" - I come from (your country)

"​Naomba" - Please may I ​

"Asante Sana" - Thank you so much

"Pole" - Sorry/my condolences/sympathize 

"Samahani" - Sorry (apologetic for something  you did)
 

Dressing:

Dar es Salaam for the most part is a very developed, modern city however dressing modestly in certain environments is recommended. This means being mindful of showcasing knees, shoulders, and cleavage. ​

In Zanzibar; when not at the resorts or tourist areas we recommend dressing more modestly as  the Islamic culture is predominant . (We will likely stay within tourist environments). 
 

Weather:

Typically Dar es Salaam during June  -October has a climate of 25C - 32C. It can get pretty humid and hot so purchasing a hand-held fan, and wearing hats, and sunscreen is highly recommended. ​
